Live AC Wire Warning System

Safety is the top priority when drilling into walls, and this detector features a continuous AC wire warning function that operates across all scanning modes. It detects unshielded, live electrical wires up to 2 inches (51mm) deep. If you approach a live wire, the dedicated red LED warning light and audio alarm will activate, helping you avoid dangerous electrical shocks and costly repairs.

Technician Tip

Always calibrate the scanner before every use. Place the device flat against the wall, press and hold the scan button until the calibration beep sounds, and then slowly slide it horizontally. Can this scanner detect plastic PVC water pipes behind the wall?

No, standard stud finders cannot detect plastic PVC pipes. This device is designed specifically to detect changes in wall density (wooden studs), magnetic/non-magnetic metals (copper or steel pipes), and the electromagnetic fields generated by live AC wires.

Why does the AC warning light flash erratically when I touch the wall?

Static electricity on the wall surface or holding the device incorrectly can cause false AC readings. To resolve this, place your other free hand flat against the wall about 12 inches away from the scanner to ground the static electricity while scanning.

Does this stud finder work on solid concrete walls?

It works for detecting metal rebar and live AC wires inside concrete walls. However, the wood stud detection mode is designed primarily for hollow walls like drywall, gypsum board, or wooden panels, as it relies on density differences that do not exist in solid concrete.

How do I calibrate the device before scanning?

Place the detector flat against the wall where you believe there are no studs or wires. Press and hold the mode button until the calibration beep sounds and the LCD bars clear. You must keep the button held down while slowly sliding the device across the wall.

Does the package include the required battery?

No, the package does not include a battery. The device requires one standard 9V dry cell battery to operate. You can purchase the required GP Supercell 9V Battery from our store to ensure you can use the detector immediately upon arrival.
