Full Product Description

Reliable Magnetic Sensing Made Simple

Whether you are building a smart security system for your home or teaching a classroom of students about electromagnetism, the Keyes Digital Reed Switch Sensor Module is the essential component you need. Unlike raw glass reed switches that are fragile and hard to solder, this module comes pre-mounted on a durable PCB with all necessary circuitry included.

How It Works

At the heart of this module is the MKA10110 Green Reed Switch. Inside the sealed glass tube are two ferrous elastic reeds separated by a small gap. When a magnet approaches, the magnetic field lines magnetize the reeds, causing them to attract and touch. This closes the circuit (Signal goes High/Low depending on logic), lighting up the on-board LED and sending a digital signal to your microcontroller. When the magnet moves away, the reeds spring apart, breaking the circuit.

Built for Makers and Educators

We understand the frustration of confusing wiring. That’s why this module features a 3-pin anti-reverse interface. The included custom wire ensures you never plug it in backwards, protecting your sensor and your mainboard. It operates seamlessly between 3.3V and 5V, making it universally compatible with most modern development boards.

Common Applications

  • Smart Home Security: Detect if windows or doors are opened.
  • Position Sensing: Use as a limit switch for CNC machines or 3D printers.
  • Speed Detection: Calculate RPM by attaching a magnet to a rotating wheel.
  • Interactive Art: Trigger lights or sounds when an object is placed correctly.

FAQ Section

Q: Is this sensor "Normally Open" (NO) or "Normally Closed" (NC)?
A: The MKA10110 reed switch is typically Normally Open (NO). The circuit is disconnected (open) by default and connects (closes) only when a magnet is brought near the sensor.

Q: Do I need a resistor to use this with Arduino?
A: No, the Keyes module comes with the necessary pull-up/pull-down resistors and LEDs integrated onto the PCB. You can connect the signal pin directly to a digital I/O pin on your Arduino.

Q: What is the detection range of this sensor?
A: The detection range depends on the strength of the magnet you use. For a standard neodymium magnet, the detection distance is usually between 10mm to 20mm.
